Gloriette

What’s in a name?

Gloriette - what does it mean? Our name and logo actually stem from our Austrian heritage! Within the Emporer Franz Joseph’s Summer Palace; Schonbrunn - stands a monument called Gloriette.

Four generations of master patisseriers

Vienna, where our story begins, is known for it’s cafe culture. Beautiful coffee houses adorn the streets, and are frequented much like pubs are in the UK.  It is from this culture that our passion for cakes was born.

The success of Gloriette today is built upon 4 generations of master patissiers, originating in Vienna, Austria, where cake making is an art and it’s fine patisserie is world renowned.

At the end of the 19th century Mr. J Heinzel and his son Anton were running a successful café and patisserie in Vienna, catering to the demanding Viennese public. His granddaughter Eva moved to the UK in 1961 and continued the family’s baking traditions with her husband, Peter Edler at Gloriette Patisserie in Knightsbridge, London which was established in 1956 by his mother Irma.

The family business, which now concentrates on supplying UK retailers and wholesalers with cakes, is now run by their children Steven and Susanne. The cake making department there continues to produce bespoke Gloriette celebration cakes to traditional craft recipes.

Over 50 years of excellence!
